Upon request of the Danske Landbrugsadvokater Association (http://www.danskelandbrugsadvokater.dk/), in the past month of April, at the hotel Infante de Sagres in Porto, SARAIVA LIMA E ASSOCIADOS organized a conference on the theme of Portuguese agriculture. The main purpose was to inform the Danish Colleagues about the recent evolution in Portugal of this economic activity and its juridical implications.
The focus was mainly in three areas: a general approach to the legal system in Portugal, the lease and acquisition of rural land and the rural development in Portugal following EU’s program Europe 2020, namely concerning PDR 2020 and related initiatives.
Matters such as EU support for investments in agriculture, EU financing levels and purposes and goals established in PDR 2020 as a way to harmonize legislation’s and EU initiatives, as well as the role of Portugal as a forerunner in implementing programs to support young farmers were also highlighted.
The importance and the uses of cork in Portugal and throughout the world, the self-sufficiency of Portugal concerning rice production and the potential of Alqueva, the largest artificial lake in Europe which is situated in the South of Portugal, were discussed among the present.
